Biography

Jean holds the Edwin A.G. Manton Endowed Chair Professorship in International Insurance and Risk Management, and teaches and researches at the School of Risk Management, St. John’s University, New York. He is editor of the Asia-Pacific Journal of Risk and Insurance [www.apria.org]. He has authored several books, as well as academic and policy-related papers. Jean specialises in insurance market and country analysis, insurer financial and operational analysis, insurance regulation and human capital issues in insurance markets. Before joining St John’s, he worked as an educator with Georgia State University and Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), as an insurance regulator with the Monetary Authority of Singapore and as an industry specialist with the Institutes. He helped to establish the Asia-Pacific Risk and Insurance Association (APRIA) in 1997, found the World Risk and Insurance Economics Congress (WRIEC) in 2005, and build the Research Network (a consortium of 20+ research centres in risk and insurance worldwide) of the International Insurance Society. He also maintains working relationships with Singapore College of Insurance, the OECD, Financial Accreditation Agency (Malaysia), Waseda University (Japan), Networks Financial Institute (US) and many other regional and global institutions. Jean earned his MBA from the College of Insurance, New York and Ph.D. from Georgia State University. He holds a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation and is listed as a Fulbright Insurance Specialist.
